Adolescence can be a turbulent and confusing time. It’s a period of rapid physical, psychological, emotional and social change. Some of the issues we can address in therapy include:
-
Changes in mood
-
Peer conflicts
-
School refusal
-
Exam and school performance stress
-
Body dysmorphia
-
Experimental risk taking
-
Child-parent conflict
-
Sexual health education and harm minimisation
-
Uncertainty about career/study
-
Bullying
-
Digital Welfare (social media and online behaviours)
Working with adolescents requires a different approach to working with adults. A relaxed, non-judgemental collaborative therapeutic stance is needed to establish trust. Goals must be mutually agreed and confidentiality arrangements are unique.
Confidentiality between the young person and Zenobia is necessary for therapy to work. However, with young people, there are some adjustments to the confidentiality agreement. Permission will always be asked before information is shared with the parent. The type of information shared might include any strategies or changes that can be implemented to assist the young person. However, in the case of risk (such as harm to self or other) confidentiality may need to be broken to keep everyone safe. Please contact us with any questions.
