Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

DBT is an evidenced based therapy that teaches four sets of skills to help manage your emotions and rescue your relationships.

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) was developed by Marsha Linehan, to treat Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD)/Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder (EUPD).

However, the skills taught in DBT are very transferable, so anyone wanting to understand their emotions or improve their relationships can benefit from the amazing skills taught in DBT.

DBT is based on the theory of dialectics which states that two opposing forces can be held together at the same time. The  two opposing forces in DBT are Change and Acceptance. Sometimes we have to change something about our internal or external worlds to improve a situation. Other times we may have to accept things as they are. DBT teaches us a range of Change and Acceptance Skills.

The Change skills in DBT are Emotional Regulation and Interpersonal Effectiveness. The Acceptance skills include Distress Tolerance and Mindfulness. Mindfulness is actually the key skill in DBT.

We offer training in all of the DBT skills which are easy to learn but must be practiced regularly for the best outcomes.
