At Domingo Psychology we use Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT-C). EFT-C is one of only a few scientifically backed therapies for couples. In as little as eight sessions you could see improvements in your relationship.
EFT-C aims to increase the emotional connection between couples by addressing unmet attachment needs.
Often couples get stuck in rigid patterns of conflict that are based on these unmet needs of connection and independence. EFT-C aims to uncover the dynamics embedded in these patterns. By learning ways to exit the entrenched patterns of conflict, couples can become more connected and feel safer in the relationship.
The aim will always be to strengthen the relationship, increase positive reactions and nurture healthy change in a collaborative manner. It is never the intention to change one partner or point the blame for problems. The interactions and patterns between each couple is what is targeted.
After an initial 50-minute intake session, couples attend weekly or fortnightly 75-minute sessions to a minimum of eight sessions. Couples are asked to commit to therapy and develop some therapeutic goals as well as individual and couple goals for the relationship.
